Figure 21:
The above symptoms may be caused by contaminated Vane Air Meters. Some meters built between July (347 Code Date) and October (350 Code Date) 1983 might have a silver sulfide contamination of the contact point and wiper assembly (See Figure 21 for Date Code location).
Diagnose for this condition using the following procedures:
1. Perform EEC IV Self Test, possible codes are 24 and 66.
NOTE: Codes may or may not appear!
2. Disconnect the vane meter EEC harness connector from the sensor.
3. Connect a DVOM (2000 ohm scale) to pin 6 (circuit 46, sig. return) and pin 7 (circuit 43, VAF).
4. Reading should be between 26 and 200 ohms; if not, replace meter. If ok, proceed to Step 5.
5. Then move the vane meter door wide open and let it close.
6. Take a second ohm meter reading. If the second reading is not within +/- 20 ohms of the first reading, the vane meter is contaminated; replace it.
NOTE: If vane meter passes this test, it is "OK". Look for problem elsewhere.
