SPARK KNOCK (1.6L) HOT - ALL EFI CALIBRATIONS


FORD 1983 ESCORT, EXP - 1.6L ENGINE WITH EFI

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1983 LYNX, LN7 - 1.6L ENGINE WITH EFI

CALIBRATIONS: All with EFI (EEC IV)

Borderline detonation during hot ambient, hard acceleration drive conditions, may be serviced by installing a retard rod.

1. Verify initial timing and record for future use.
2. Insure ignition key is off.

3. Remove distributor cap and rotor.
4. Locate octane rod securing screw and remove it.
5. Slide rod partially away from boss of distributor housing to a point where vane switch stator assembly can move freely. Gently lift rod over stator assembly post.
6. Remove the rod and grommet.
7. Obtain a 3~ retard rod 12A335 and install the grommet removed from the old rod.
8. Reinstall the new rod and secure the screw.
9. Reinstall distributor cap and rotor.
10. Verify the initial timing is now retarded 3~.



Obtain an Authorized Modifications decal and list the date, dealer number and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications decal. Clean the area, install the decal and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
