Do not tighten fittings to service fuel pump leaks; replace the pump.

Tightening the fittings on the electric fuel to stop fuel leakage can result in fracture of the fitting at a later date. The correct service procedure for electric pumps with leaking fittings is to replace the pump. The fuel inlet and outlet fittings are not serviced separately.

The 1983 Escort/Lynx, EXP/LN7 Shop Manual, Section 24-35-3, gives torque specifications for the electric fuel pump inlet fittings. This information should be deleted from the Shop Manual as shown in Figure 3.
