FIGURE 7:
A number of inquiries, have been received from customers and Dealer Service personnel concerning the omission of a transmission "Shift Indicator Light" on some 1983 vehicles equipped with manual transmissions. Contrary to published 1983 Owners Guides (Figure 7), some vehicles are not equipped with a functioning transmission shift indicator light. Vehicles which are supposed to have a functioning light are determined by the calibration of the engine installed in the vehicle. In the other cases, the light will be installed in the instrument panel, but not connected. Again, this has been done purposely.
FIGURE 8:
The chart updates the list originally published in TSB Article 82-25-16 (Figure 8), and lists all current manual transmission engine calibrations and shows which vehicles are supposed to have functioning light and which do not. This chart will be updated periodically throughout the year. Also, future editions of the Owners Guides will be revised to say that "Some manual transmission vehicles will be equipped with a shift indicator light, depending on engine calibration."
