Headlamp Switch:

EXC. 1985-88 THUNDERBIRD & COUGAR

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove control knob and shaft assembly, by placing knob in full ``On'' position, then pressing knob release button on switch and pulling out knob and shaft, Fig. 2. To gain access to the release button on Fairmont and Zephyr models with air conditioning it may be necessary to first disconnect the left A/C duct.
3. On all models, remove bezel nut. Disconnect multiple plug connector, vacuum hoses if vehicle is equipped with headlight doors and remove switch.
4. Reverse procedure to install. Install knob and shaft by inserting shaft into the switch until a distinct click is heard. In some instances it may be necessary to rotate the shaft slightly until it engages the switch carrier.
