Turbocharger: Service Precautions

Before performing turbocharger service, note the following general precautions:
1. Clean area around turbocharger assembly with non-caustic solution before removal of assembly. Cover openings of engine assembly connections to prevent entry of foreign material while turbocharger is off engine.
2. When removing turbocharger assembly, do not bend, nick or in any way damage the compressor or turbine wheel blades. Any damage may result in rotating assembly imbalance, and failure of turbocharger.
3. Prior to disassembling turbocharger assembly, scribe reference marks between assemblies to aid during reassembly.
