This article is being republished in its entirety to revise the vehicle application.
ISSUE: Light surging and/or bucking during deceleration may be caused by chemical contamination of the EGR control/vent solenoid.
ACTION: To correct this, install a new EGR control/vent solenoid using the following service diagnostic procedure.
NOTE: The new part must have a date code of 0647 (March 6, 1987) or later.
1. Inspect for loose, disconnected or broken electrical and vacuum lines. Service as required.
2. Perform EEC quick test and service as directed.
3. If the condition continues, drive the vehicle with the EGR vacuum line disconnected and plugged. If the condition is eliminated, replace the EGR control/vent solenoid assembly (E5TZ-9D474-AA).
