A/T - AOD Identifying Valve Bodies

SIL 85-2

SUBJECT: AOD

A problem has occurred occasionally in identifying AOD valve body assemblies as to whether they are police, or normal types. The difference is that a police unit does not have a low range. When the shift lever is pulled down into the lowest position on the quadrant on a police unit, the vehicle will have only second gear, NO LOW.

If you happen to get the police valve body on a customer's car, you may have a complaint on your hands. To identify the difference:

1) The 1-2 shift valve on the police units will be two-piece. The standard 1-2 shift valve will be one-piece.

2) On the back, or outside, of the valve body, there will be three letters stamped together. If the center of the three letters is "A", "B", "C", "D" or "E" then it is a police unit.

Note that the valve bodies can be changed without any other problems occurring.
