- DESCRIPTION OF CHANGES AND INTERCHANGEABILITY

LIGHT TRUCKS 1984 F-SERIES, E-SERIES, RANGER, BRONCO II

C-5 transmission will have the following changes incorporated for 1984 model vehicles.

Approximately eight (8) models of C-5 automatic transmissions are currently released for the 1984 five (5) passenger car models and three (3) truck models. The truck models are two (2) F-150 applications and one (1) Ranger/Bronco II 2.8L 4x4 application.

Vehicle and/or engine combinations dropped for 1984 include the 3.3L (200 CID) engine with the C-5

transmission; the 2.3L Ranger with the C-5 transmission; and the 3.8L F-100 C-5 truck model. The 2.3L Ranger will be released with the C-3 transmission. New to C-5 will be the F-150 4.9L and 5.0L truck applications.

Major design changes for incorporation of the 4.9L and the 5.0L F-150 applications

^ Micro-finish change to the forward planet assembly for durability. This planet will be the service replacement for all C-5 model transmissions.
^ The reverse clutch pack will have one more steel plate (3 to 4) and one more friction plate (3 to 4).
^ The converter is a 12" non-converter clutch 110 type converter. It is as deep as the converter clutch type converter because the clutch assembly has been replaced by a spacer.
^ Two new flywheels (flywheels were used on other vehicle/engine applications).
^ Transmission fluid capacity is 11.5 U.S. quarts.

C-5 passenger car highlights

^ All passenger car applications have 12" converter clutch type converters.
^ All converters will have an orange special balance mark on a converter stud. If a flywheel bolt has a
special balance mark, align the marks to avoid powertrain imbalance.
^ Fleet applications with the auxiliary cooler option will have an "H" fitting that bypasses some of the auxiliary cooler flow, especially during cold weather operation to ensure lubrication flow to the transmission.

Interchangeability:

The following 1984 transmission and main control are carryover 1983 and can be used on the 1983 model if service replacement is necessary:
