Poor Performance or No Start symptoms may be caused by a plugged or restricted exhaust system. If this condition is verified (see 1984 Emissions/Diagnosis Manual HC, Section 5-3) the following steps should be performed to identify and eliminate the prime causal factors and preclude a repeat service.
1. Check the spark plugs for fuel fouling. The use of scope is recommended. Do not attempt to clean (blow-off or burn-off) the plugs by running the engine at high RPM's. All fouled plugs must be removed and cleaned or replaced.
2. Check the coolant. Fill to correct level with proper coolant as required.
3. Check fuel pressure. The specified fuel pressures are:
System Fuel Pressure 1984 Shop Manual
CFI 35-45 PSI Book H Section 25-139
4. Run Quick Test and service as required. Check the MAP sensor with the MAP Sensor Tester (if available) and service as required.
5. If the causal factor has not been identified by this time, road test the vehicle for 10 miles and run Quick Test again. If the vehicle passes, return to the customer.
