This article changes idle speed setting procedures published in Volumes H and HC of the 1984 Car Shop Manual, and in TSB 84-3-23.

Replace pages 4-57 and 4-58 from the 1984 Emission Diagnosis Manual (H) and pages 4-51 and 4-52 in manual (HC) with the following pages.

The third sentence in Step 7 (4-52A) as revised should now read:

"The gap between the ISC Motor tip (which is the Idle Tracking switch) and the Throttle lever should measure between 3/16 and 1/4". If it is not within range, loosen the ISC bracket lock screw and turn the ISC bracket adjusting screw until a 7/32 drill bit will pass through the gap making only light contact with both surfaces.

NOTE: Be sure not to push back the idle tracking switch with the drill bit while setting the clearance.

It should be noted that generally, this adjustment should only be required in the event of ISC Motor replacement.
