RADIO - REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT
- A/C EQUIPPED UNITS BUILT BETWEEN APRIL 28, 1983 AND MAY 3, 1984
FORD 1983-84 MUSTANG
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1983-84 CAPRI
An engineering change was made to the lower A/C air distribution duct which made the duct non-removable on vehicles built between April 28, 1983 to May 3, 1984. In order to service the large box mechanically tuned radios, it will be necessary to use the revised R&R procedures as follows:
Removal
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove the control knobs, disc, control shaft nuts and washers.
3. Remove console assembly (refer to shop manual section 45-31).
4. Remove instrument panel upper pad.
5. Remove instrument cluster finish panel.
6. Remove nuts and bolts from radio support and brace.
7. Disconnect antenna cable.
8. Remove cowl side panel.
9. Remove bolts and screws from instrument panel and position out of way.
10. Disconnect main wiring assembly.
11. Remove radio assembly.
Installation
1. Install radio assembly.
2. Install main wiring assembly.
3. Reposition instrument panel - install bolts and screws.
4. Install cowl side panel.
5. Install antenna cable.
6. Install instrument cluster finish panel.
7. Install instrument panel upper pad.
8. Install console assembly.
9. Install the control knobs, disc, control shaft nuts and washers.
10. Connect battery ground cable.
11. Install control knobs and check operation.
