TIRE WEAR - OUTER EDGE APPEARANCE - ALL SEASON TIRES
FORD 1983-84 ALL CAR LINES SO EQUIPPED
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1983-84 ALL CAR LINES SO EQUIPPED
This article describes a normal tire outer edge appearance on revised all season tires.
To prevent unusual wear and noise with all-season tires, "tie-bars" have been added tying the outer tread row blocks together. These tie-bars are raised bars down in the tread between the tread blocks.
Through normal tire wear these tie-bars will eventually become visible and may give the appearance of uneven wear on the tire outer edge. The appearance of uneven wear is normal and not indicative of abnormal wear. This uneven wear appearance must not be confused with the normal wear bar indicators found across the face of the tread. Tires should be replaced when the wear bars are visible as a solid band across the face of the tread. A description of the wear bars is outlined in the vehicle Owner's Guide manual.
