IDLE SPEED HIGH - 3.8L - DRIVE OR REVERSE
FORD 1984 MUSTANG
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1984 CAPRI
CALIBRATIONS: All with C.F.I.
High idle speeds of approximately 750 rpm while in drive or reverse may be caused by a steering column cowling screw piercing the wiring harness and the grounding pin # 30, of the neutral/drive circuit.
To verify if pin #30 is grounded, perform the following:
1. With the gear selector in drive, perform the "key-on engine-off" procedure of Quick Test. 2.a. A code of "67" means that pin # 30 is not grounded and is not the cause of the high idle speed.
b. A code "11" means that pin # 30 is grounded. Look for a steering column cowling screw piercing the wiring harness. Service as required.
