ISSUE: Oil consumption, detonation, rough idle, stalling on decel and/or poor performance may be caused by oil entering the vane meter and/or the throttle body through the air inlet tube that connects the turbocharger and the vane meter air outlet. This may be caused by a high engine oil level causing oil foaming, excessive crankcase pressure caused

by an interrupted PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) flow, incorrect location of the speed control system vacuum hose nipple at the PCV closure tube (TSB 86-10-8), restriction in the vent tube connector (TSB 84-16-12) and/or an ineffective oil separator (TSB 84-16-18).

ACTION: Use the following service procedures to keep oil from collecting in the service ribs of the air inlet tube and entering the vane meter and/or throttle body.

Model Year 1983-84

1. Check to see if rocker arm cover has a rear external oil separator. If not, then install oil separator E5SZ-6A785-A. (Refer to TSB 84-6-18.)

2. Check to see if vent tube connector on turbocharger inlet elbow is correct size. (Refer to TSB 84-16-23.)

3. If vehicle is equipped with speed control, a new turbocharger air inlet elbow (E6SZ-9C674-A) must be installed (refer to TSB 86-10-8) before going to Step 4 of this procedure.

4. If the above corrections do not correct oil accumulation in the ribs of the air inlet tube, add the following parts.

Rocker arm cover E7SZ-6582-A
Grommet E7AZ-6A892-A
Oil Separator E6ZZ-6A785-A
Screw-in oil fill cap E7DZ-6766-A

Model Year 1985-86

1. If vehicle is equipped with speed control, a new turbocharger air inlet elbow (E6SZ-9C674-A) must be installed. (Refer to TSB 86-10-8.)

2. Check crankcase to see that oil fill is not over five (5) quarts (4 quarts plus 1 quart for filter change). If it is overfilled, then the "Max Fill" mark/wording on oil dipstick is probably incorrect. Overfilling the crankcase will cause oil to be ingested into the air intake system.

Correct this by draining engine oil and discarding old oil filter. Refill with exactly four (4) quarts plus one (1) quart for filter change. Install the new re-calibrated dipstick (E7SZ- 6750-B) (Turbo).

3. If the above corrections do not correct oil accumulation in the ribs of the air inlet tube, the following parts should be added:

Rocker arm cover E7SZ-6582-A
Grommet E7AZ-6A892-A
Oil Separator E6ZZ-6A785-A
Screw-in oil fill cap E7DZ-6766-A

Model Year (Early) 1987

Check to see that oil fill in crankcase is not over five (5) quarts (4 quarts plus 1 quart for filter change). If it is overfilled, then the "Max Fill" mark/wording on oil dipstick is probably incorrect. Overfilling crankcase will cause oil to be ingested into air intake system.

Correct by draining engine oil and discarding old oil filter. Refill with exactly four (4) quarts plus one (1) quart for filter change. Install new re-calibrated dipstick (E7SZ-6750-B) (Turbo).

NOTE: After oil and dipstick check, no new parts should be added for early 1987 models.
