LIGHT TRUCKS 1983-84 ALL WITH EEC IV
This Article supersedes Article No. 84-21-14-S to add Light Trucks to the applications.
EVP sensors with date codes prior to October 12, 1984 may cause rough engine operation and/or stalling in some cars, particularly 1984 California vehicles with EEC III. These vehicles do not have "keep alive memories" to track intermittent component concerns, making diagnosis more difficult.
FIGURE 12:
When servicing 1984 EEC III equipped vehicles with this concern, check the EVP Sensor. Replace the EVP Sensor if its part number is E43F-9G428-A2A with a date code prior to October 12, 1984 (4K12B). The date code is located on the EVP Sensor just below the part number (Figure 12).
Normal Diagnostic Procedures will usually detect the above condition on all EEC IV applications.
Assure that replacement parts have a date code of 4K12B or later.
NOTE: EVP Sensors with part number E43F-9G428- A1A/A1B are not affected and all date codes are acceptable for service.
