NOISE - TICKING - ENGINE COMPARTMENT (3.8L-2V OR CFI)

A ticking noise coming from the engine compartment can be caused by a noisy intake manifold heat control valve (IMHCV).
1. Disconnect the vacuum line to the Intake Manifold Heat Control Valve (IMHCV).
2. Tee the valve directly to the vacuum line to the vacuum reservoir.
3. Drive vehicle; if noise is still present, heat control valve (IMHCV) is O.K. and not the source of noise.
4. If noise disappears the valve should be replaced with E4AZ-9G464-A. On 1984 vehicles with speed control, also replace the speed control bracket with part number E45Z-9C876-C.
5. Reconnect vacuum lines from Step 1.
