A power antenna mast which is bent or broken can now be replaced without replacing the motor and tube assembly.
NOTE: After replacing the E4VY-18A886-A Triband antenna mast, readjust the VSWR (Voltage Standing Wave Radio) as stated in Section 35-21-5 of the Shop Manual "A" for Lincoln Town Car.

DAMAGED MAST REMOVAL PROCEDURE (REAR FENDER MOUNTED ANTENNA):
STEP 1
LOOSEN NUT WITH 9/16" OPEN END WRENCH,SLIDE NUT PART OF THE WAY UP THE MAST.
DAMAGED MAST REMOVAL PROCEDURE (REAR FENDER MOUNTED ANTENNA):
STEP 2
RUN ANTENNA UP TO RUN PLASTIC DRIVE WIRE OUT OF MOTOR. PULL THE PLASTIC DRIVE WIRE ALL THE WAY OUT OF THE STATIONARY TUBE BY HAND.
STEP 2A
IF THE ANTENNA IS THE AUTOMATIC OPERATING TYPE AND THE MOTOR STOPS BEFORE THE PLASTIC DRIVE WIRE IS RELEASED BY THE DRIVE MECHANISM, GRIP THE PLASTIC DRIVE WIRE WITH PLIERS TO PREVENT IT FROM MOVING DOWN. RUN THE ANTENNA DOWN. THE CLUTCH WILL LET THE MOTOR RUN WHILE THE PLASTIC DRIVE WIRE IS BEING HELD. NOW RUN THE ANTENNA UP AND PULL THE PLASTIC DRIVE WIRE ALL THE WAY OUT OF THE STATIONARY TUBE.
DAMAGED MAST REMOVAL PROCEDURE (REAR FENDER MOUNTED ANTENNA):
STEP 3
CUT DAMAGED PORTION OF MAST OFF USING TUBING CUTTER. REMOVE ALL BURRS TO SALVAGE NUT AND STOP WASHER.
NOTE: WHEN CUTTING MAST USE TUBING CUTTER ONLY. IF A HACKSAW IS USED, CHIPS MAY FALL INTO STATIONARY TUBE, RESULTING IN A SHORT IN THE ANTENNA.
NEW MAST INSTALLATION PROCEDURE (REAR FENDER MOUNTED ANTENNA):
STEP 4
PUSH THE FREE END OF THE PLASTIC DRIVE WIRE FROM THE REPLACEMENT MAST ASSEMBLY INTO THE STATIONARY TUBE. WORK PLASTIC DRIVE WIRE AROUND UNTIL THE END OF THE PLASTIC DRIVE WIRE ENTERS THE DRIVE MECHANISM.
STEP 5
RUN THE MOTOR DOWN WHILE PUSHING DOWN ON THE PLASTIC DRIVE WIRE UNTIL APPROXIMATELY TWELVE INCHES OF THE PLASTIC DRIVE WIRE HAS BEEN DRAWN INTO THE STATIONARY TUBE. STOP THE MOTOR AND INSERT THE BOTTOM (LARGEST) END OF MAST INTO THE STATIONARY TUBE. RUN THE MAST DOWN.
NEW MAST INSTALLATION PROCEDURE (REAR FENDER MOUNTED ANTENNA):
STEP 5A
IF THE ANTENNA IS THE AUTOMATIC OPERATING TYPE, DISCONNECT THE POWER PLUG AT THE ANTENNA AND USE A JUMPER TO COMPLETE THE DOWN CIRCUIT (GREEN WIRE) SO THAT THE DOWN CYCLE CAN BE INTERRUPTED TO ALLOW INSERTION OF THE MAST WITHOUT DAMAGE TO THE STATIONARY TUBE, CONTACTS, OR PINCHING FINGERS.
STEP 6
PLACE THE BRASS STOP WASHER AND NUT OVER MAST AND START THREADING IT ON THE STATIONARY TUBE BY HAND. THE STOP WASHER MUST BE PROPERLY ALIGNED TO DO THIS.
STEP 7
TIGHTEN MAST NUT TO 4 INCH POUNDS.
STEP 8
CYCLE THE ANTENNA SEVERAL TIMES TO INSURE PROPER OPERATION.

STEP 1
CRIMP MAST AT DIMENSION SHOWN TO AVOID SLIPPING OF MAST DOWN INTO ANTENNA ASSEMBLY.
DAMAGED MAST REMOVAL PROCEDURE (FRONT FENDER MOUNTED ANTENNA):
STEP 2
CUT PLASTIC DRIVE WIRE AND DAMAGED PORTION OF MAST OFF, ABOVE CRIMP, USING TUBING CUTTERS.
STEP 3
REMOVE MOUNTING NUT AND INSULATOR ASSEMBLY USING A SPANNER WRENCH.
DAMAGED MAST REMOVAL PROCEDURE (FRONT FENDER MOUNTED ANTENNA):
STEP 4
LOOSEN NEXT NUT WITH 9/16" NUT DRIVER OR DEEP WELL SOCKET.
DAMAGED MAST REMOVAL PROCEDURE (FRONT FENDER MOUNTED ANTENNA):
STEP 5
RUN ANTENNA UP TO RUN PLASTIC DRIVE WIRE OUT OF MOTOR. PULL THE PLASTIC DRIVE WIRE ALL THE WAY OUT OF THE STATIONARY TUBE BY HAND. THE HEX NUT AND THE BRASS STOP WASHER WILL REMAIN ON THE MAST.
STEP 6
CUT MAST AGAIN BELOW CRIMP TO SALVAGE NUT AND BRASS STOP WASHER. WHEN CUTTING MAST, USE TUBING CUTTERS ONLY. IF A HACKSAW IS USED, CHIPS MAY FALL INTO THE STATIONARY TUBE, RESULTING IN A SHORT IN THE ANTENNA.
NEW MAST INSTALLATION (FRONT FENDER MOUNTED ANTENNA):
STEP 7
PUSH THE FREE END OF THE PLASTIC DRIVE WIRE FROM THE REPLACEMENT MAST INTO THE STATIONARY TUBE, WORK THE PLASTIC DRIVE WIRE AROUND UNTIL THE END OF THE PLASTIC DRIVE WIRE ENTERS THE DRIVE MECHANISM.
STEP 8
RUN THE MOTOR DOWN WHILE PUSHING DOWN ON THE PLASTIC DRIVE WIRE UNTIL APPROXIMATELY TWELVE INCHES OF THE PLASTIC DRIVE WIRE HAS BEEN DRAWN INTO THE STATIONARY TUBE. STOP THE MOTOR AND INSERT THE BOTTOM (LARGEST) END OF THE MAST INTO THE STATIONARY TUBE. RUN THE MAST DOWN.
STEP 9
PLACE THE BRASS STOP WASHER AND HEX NUT OVER THE MAST AND START THREADING IT ON THE STATIONARY TUBE. STOP WASHER MUST BE PROPERLY ALIGNED TO DO THIS.
STEP 10
TIGHTEN MAST RETAINING HEX NUT TO FOUR INCH POUNDS.
STEP 11
REPLACE MOUNTING NUT AND INSULATOR ASSEMBLY AND TIGHTEN SECURELY.
STEP 12
CYCLE THE ANTENNA SEVERAL TIMES TO INSURE PROPER OPERATION.
