FORD 1983-85 THUNDERBIRD

Map compartments can become loose after opening and closing the door repeatedly. This is the result of poor retention of the compartment clip. To service this condition, use the following procedure to improve clip retention.

1. Remove door trim panel assembly from both doors. (Refer to the appropriate car line year Shop Manual, Section 45-03, reflecting removal and installation instructions for door trim panel.)

Figure 1 - Map Compartment Assembly:

2. On back of each door trim panel, remove (2) clips and apply thin coat of adhesive (use 3M structural adhesive - 3M part number 0801) on both sides of clip. Install the clips as shown in Figure 1.
3. Obtain plastic tapes (2" x 2") (use 3M scotch plastic tape no.471 - part number 06425) and apply over each installed clip to retain the clips as shown.

4. Install both door trim panels.
