GLASS - HEATED BACKLIGHT - ROCKER SWITCH STICKS IN "ON" POSITION CAUSING BATTERY DISCHARGE

The heated backlight rocker switch on some 1984 Escort/Lynx/EXP vehicles could stick in the "ON" position, causing battery discharge. The upper right corner may bind against the cluster finish panel causing the switch to remain in the "ON" position.

To service this condition, remove the heated backlight switch using Shop Manual procedure. Cut off the top locating pin as shown in Figure 4. With the locating pin removed, the top of the switch can not be adjusted so that the rocker does not bind in the opening of the finish panel.
