SUBJECT: Emissions Recall 90E96 - Emissions Control Systems Modifications on Certain 1984 and 1985-Model 49-States 1.6L Engine Equipped Passenger Cars

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CARS INVOLVED IN THIS RECALL WERE INVOLVED IN EMISSIONS RECALL 88E72, WHICH IS CANCELLED FOR THE AFFECTED CARS AND REPLACED BY THIS RECALL. RECALL 88E72 WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT FOR THOSE CARS NOT INVOLVED IN THIS RECALL. ALL OWNERS OF THE AFFECTED CARS WILL BE NOTIFIED. YOU ARE TO PERFORM THE SERVICE OFFERED BY THIS RECALL EVEN IF THE CAR HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY SERVICED.

AFFECTED VEHICLES 1984 and 1985-Model 49-States Escort, Lynx and EXP
cars equipped with 1.6L engines having calibration
codes 4-04A-R14/R16 (1984-Models) and 4-04A-R16 (1985-Models).

REASONS FOR The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
RECALL and Ford have conducted audits of affected
cars that were involved in Emissions Recall 88E72 and have
found that some of the cars were not properly modified.

Ford and the EPA have agreed to renotify the owners of the affected cars to assure
that the recall modification procedures are correct.

SPECIAL RECALL All of the owners of the affected cars
PROCEDURE involved in the prior recall will be
notified to return for service. Some of these cars will have had service under that recall. Remove any parts used in that recall from these cars and perform the modification procedure described in this recall bulletin.
