This article supersedes TSB article 85-20-10 (dated 10/01/85) and is being republished to revise service kit content.

Rough idle, stalls at idle and during decel or a white/brownish residue on the oil dipstick and oil fill cap may be due to the following:

^ Oil sludge may collect in the throttle body and air bypass valve, restricting air flow at idle and thereby causing the above concerns.

^ Excessive water/condensation mixes with oil, making it difficult to read oil level, and during cold weather, freezing dipstick into engine block. The dipstick may also rust.

A service kit, which contains revised crankcase breathing components, is available to correct these concerns. The kit also contains the installation instructions. However, the kit erroneously contains a fresh air tube that doesn't fit. Discard the (E6EE-6853-BA fresh air tube that is in the kit, and substitute a 13-1/2 inch length of 5/8 inch bulk heater hose, part number C9PZ-18472-E).

Authorized Modifications Decal:

Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
