SUSPENSION - REAR - CAMBER ADJUSTMENT

This article provides a procedure to adjust rear suspension camber. Revised rear camber specifications are also listed.
To service an appearance concern of negative camber in the rear suspension, use the following procedure:

1. With the vehicle at curb weight and full fuel tank, check the rear suspension camber.
2. If the camber is to be changed by + 3/4~ or less, it can be corrected as follows:

^ Loosen the two strut-to-spindle bolts.
^ Pull out on the top of the tire and push in on the bottom of the tire.
^ Tighten the strut-to-spindle bolts to 90-100 lbs.-ft.

If the camber is to be changed more than + 3/4~, service kit (Part No. E3FZ-5L920-A) may be installed. This kit will give an adjustment of 2~ and consists of two of the following parts:

Camber Adjustment Wedge Bolt M10 - 1.5 x 60.0 Hex Flange Head Nut M10 - 1.5 Hex Flange Head Bolt M12 - 1.75 x 65.0 Hex Flange Head Nut M12 - 1.75 Hex Flange Head

NOTE: This kit contains parts for both right and left camber adjustment. There will be vehicles however when only one side will require adjustment.

Use the following procedure to install this kit:

1. Raise the vehicle on hoist.
2. Place floor jacks under the rear suspension control arms.
3. Remove wheel and tire assembly.
4. Remove the clip for the brake line.
5. Remove the brake line bracket and position it aside.
6. Remove shock strut-to-spindle attaching bolts, nuts, and retainer plate. Discard these fasteners.
NOTE: Caution should be used when the fasteners are removed that the brake line is not bent.

7. Install new lower (large) bolt M12 from the rear and hand start the nut. DO NOT tighten at this time.

8. Position the camber wedge between the shock strut and the spindle at the upper attaching hole location. The teeth on the camber wedge are to face outward (Figure 4).
9. Install upper bolt (small) M10 from the rear and hand start the nut M10. DO NOT tighten at this time.
10. Pull the top of the brake drum and spindle out as far as it will go and lightly tap down the camber wedge in place.
11. Torque the upper nut (M10) to 60-65 lbs. ft. and the lower nut (M12) to 96 lbs. ft.
12. Install the brake hose bracket.
13. Install the brake hose clip.
14. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
15. Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle.
