Owner Letter
July, 1988Dear Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act of Canada. Ford Motor Company of Canada, Limited (Ford) is recalling certain 1981 through 1983 Mustang and Capri cars and certain 1983 and 1984 Escort and Lynx cars. This is in response to a Transport Canada concern that a condition may exist that is likely to affect the safe operation of these cars. Our records show that you own one of these cars, identified by the vehicle identification number on the enclosed form.
Description Of The Condition:
A screw that holds the driver's seat back in position on your car may break unexpectedly and permit the seat back to fall backwards. Transport Canada's concern is that this could affect the driver's ability to control the car and may result in a vehicle crash.
Repairs:
At no cost to you, your dealer will replace two screws in the driver's seat of your car.
How Long Will It Take?
The time needed to repair your car is less than one hour.
Please Call Your Dealer:
Call your dealer without delay and ask for a service date. When you bring your car in, give the dealer the enclosed form.
If you misplace the form, your dealer will still do the work, free of charge.
Refund:
You will be provided a refund if you have paid to have the driver's side forward lower seat recliner-to-seat cushion attachment screw replaced due to breakage.
For a refund, present the original of the paid repair order of parts purchase receipt to your Ford or Mercury dealer no later than December 31, 1988. The dealer will process a refund if the repairs were made prior to the receipt of this letter.
Have You Changed Your Name, Address Or Sold The Car?
If you have, please fill out Section 1 of the prepaid postcard attached to the enclosed form and mail it to us.
If your dealer cannot answer any questions you may have regarding this recall, please write the "National Owner Relations Office" or contact the nearest Ford of Canada Regional Office. The addresses and telephone numbers for these offices are shown in your vehicle's Owner Guide.
We regret the inconvenience this service may cause you, but we want you to have the work done for your safety and satisfaction with your car.
