Crankshaft Pulley - Rattle/Squeal Noise

Rattle or squeal noise may be caused by the crankshaft pulley being loose or broken at the periphery of the attaching bolt opening. This condition is due to loss of torque at the attaching bolt causing the pulley to be loose.
1. Remove the crankshaft pulley, washer, and attaching bolt.

2. Discard any attaching bolt identified with a large "C" and a small "H" stamped on the head of the bolt (Figure 3).
3. Replace the pulley if found broken (Part No. E2FZ- 6A312-A).
4. Install pulley, washer, and new pulley attaching bolt (Part No. E1FZ-6A340-A), identified with an "M"
stamped on the head of the bolt using the following procedure:
^ Hold the crankshaft pulley stationary using crankshaft bolt wrench YA-826 or equivalent, and tighten the pulley attaching bolt 110-132 N-m (81-98 ft. lbs.) using crankshaft pulley wrench T81P-6312-A.
5. Install the accessory drive belts and tighten to specification as outlined in Section 27-02-6 of the 1984 Car Shop Manual E.
