OWNER NOTIFICATION PROGRAM M50 (Attachment I) TECHNICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE INSTRUCTIONS

PLEASE CIRCULATE THESE INSTRUCTIONS TO YOUR PARTS AND SERVICE PERSONNEL. ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THESE INSTRUCTIONS SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO YOUR SERVICE ZONE MANAGER.


VEHICLES INVOLVED

1984 and 1985 - model passenger cars equipped with the engines as shown below:

TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS INSPECTION

1. Locate the ignition module build date code which is on the module cover or the module connector shroud.

^ If the date code is "5J" or later, (5K, 5L, 5M, etc.) the module is "OK", and the car may be returned to the owner.

^ If the date code is "5H" or earlier, proceed with the following instructions:

NOTE: Interpret the build date codes for the modules as follows:

1st Digit "5" Is the year, "1985" 2nd Digit " " Is the month, starting with "A" for January (I is not used).

Modules coded "5J" or later (September, 1985 or later) are OK. Modules coded "5H" or earlier (August, 1985, or earlier) are to be replaced.

Module Replacement

1. Remove the thick film ignition module and inspect the electrical connectors on the distributor stator assembly.

^ If the stator assembly electrical connectors are damaged or the stator connector housing is cracked, it will be necessary to replace the assembly Service Part Number E6PZ-12A112-A).

2. Install a new thick film ignition module.

CLAIMS PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS (A copy of these instructions should be filed in Subject 5.5 or 9.0 of your Warranty and Policy Manual.)

^ The service provided by this program will be performed at no charge to owners for 5 years from their cars' in-service date or 50,000 miles of operation, whichever comes first. Service performed after those time/mileage limitations will not be covered under this program, and will be the owners' responsibility.

STANDARD CLAIM PREPARATION:





^ Claim Forms 1863 for this program must include standard claim preparation procedures and the information shown below. Program number M50 must be entered in the Program Code box in the upper left of the forms.

REIMBURSEMENT

Reimbursement requests submitted under Owner Notification Program M50 are governed by the following guidelines:

^ Owners seeking reimbursement for service performed at their expense prior to the announcement of this program must present their paid repair orders or invoices to any Ford or Lincoln-Mercury dealership by August 31, 1987.

^ A copy of the paid repair orders or-invoices showing the date and vehicle mileage at the time of the service must be retained in your service file for at least one year following the date of Company notification of payment.

^ Owner reimbursement requests must be submitted on separate warranty claim Forms
1863 by October 30, 1987. Claims submitted after that date will not be paid. In addition to the information shown for the special preparation of Owner Refund claims (Reference: Warranty and Policy Manual - Subject 6.1, Page 15), please enter the following:

Administrative Allowance - 0.2 Hours

^ An administrative allowance of 0.2 hours will be allowed for processing each eligible owner reimbursement request. To claim the allowance, enter the word ALLOW in the Labor Operation No. column and 0.2 hours in the Scheduled Time column. Extend the 0.2 hours at your authorized warranty labor rate and enter the result in the Amount column.

^ Please provide prompt reimbursement to all eligible owners who respond to this program with proper documentation regardless of the source of the original service.

NOTIFICATION

Owners of involved cars will be advised of Owner Notification Program M50 by letter (Attachment II).
