HARD STARTING -2.3L OHC - HOT OR COLD

FORD 1984 LTD

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1984 MARQUIS

CALIBRATIONS: 2.3 OHC Canada only

A hard starting condition can be caused by an improperly wired connector at the ignition coil.

When a hard starting condition is experienced, the following steps should be taken to insure that the ignition coil wires are not crossed in the connector before performing normal (hard starting) diagnostic procedures.

1. Locate the ignition coil mounted under the hood on the front of the left hand shock tower.

FIGURE 5:

2. Using Figure 5, check circuits #11 (dark green/yellow dot) and #16 (red/light green stripe) to make sure they are installed properly in the connector.
3. If ignition coil connector is wired correctly, no further action is required. Proceed with normal (hard starting) diagnostic procedures.
4. If the wiring for the ignition coil connector does not agree with Figure 5, remove the connector from the coil and reverse circuits #11 and #16. Reinstall connector.
NOTE: Until the old service stock of the 14290 wire harness is depleted, it will be necessary when installing a new 14290 wire harness on the subject vehicle to check for crossed wires at the ignition coil connector and correct, if necessary.
