LOCKS - POWER DOOR LOCK - KNOB - BECOMES LOOSE/ STRIPS WHEN PULLED UP TO THE UNLOCK POSITION
FORD 1984-85 LTD
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1984-85 MARQUIS
Some 1984-85 LTD/Marquis vehicles may exhibit loose/stripped door power lock knobs. The concern is caused by oversize holes in the lock knobs. To correct the concern, replace the knob with a new power lock knob (D2AZ-6521850-A) using the following procedure.
Figure 1:
1. Procure the new lock knob (D2AZ-6521850-A) and mark a chalk line 7/8" plus or minus 1/8" from bottom of power lock knob (Figure 1).
2. Carefully place the power lock knob into the trim cover lock knob hole and centered onto the lock rod, slowly turn the power lock knob with a gentle downward force. This will cause the plastic flutes within the power lock knob to form threads to securely fasten the knob to the rod. The gentle downward force may cause the lock rod to function to locked position however, the power lock knob must be screwed onto the rod to the depth of 7/8" plus or minus 1/8" as marked in Step #1 above.
3. Function the system to assure that the power lock is not loose or stripped and check other lock knobs to assure the complete system is functioning properly.
