FORD 1984-85 LTD

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1984-85 MARQUIS

This article outlines the Procedure to service an axle bearing type noise that may be transmitted through the parking brake cable(s) into the passenger compartment.

1. Measure the length of the brake cable from the brake cable mounting eyelet to the brake backing plate on each side of the vehicle.

2. Obtain from stock two (2) lengths of 5/8 inch heater hose and six (6) plastic tie wraps (the type used to secure automotive wires). Use enough hose to cover 98% of the brake cables.

3. Slit the hoses from end to end and push-fit one length on each brake cable from the brake cable mounting eyelet to the brake backing plate. MAKE SURE THE HOSE SLIT FACES THE GROUND TO
ALLOW FOR WATER DRAINAGE: FIGURE 13 SHOWS HOSE INSTALLED.

4. Attach the six(6) plastic tie wraps (three (3) on each hose) as shown in Figure 13.
