Loose wire terminals at the spade connectors on the rail mounted fuel pump motor can result in low voltage (below 8.5 volts) and fuel starvation. If the fuel pump is inoperative or the drive concern is intermittent, check the connections before replacing the pump assembly.

Procedure
1. Disconnect the fuel pump wiring harness connector (attached to the pump bracket). See Figure 16.
2. Attach continuity tester leads to the two terminals in the pump motor harness connector. Push and pull lightly on connectors located under rubber boots and observe tester for opens or intermittent continuity.

3. If tester indicates continuity is good, use fuel pump diagnostic procedure in Section 24-35 of the appropriate Shop Manual.

4. If circuit is open or intermittent, roll back boots and check/reconnect wire terminals to pump terminals. Recheck connections with tester.
