GAUGE - FUEL - FLUCTUATING FUEL LEVEL GAUGE - BELOW 1/2 TANK - CFI WITH DIAL GAUGE

FORD 1984 LTD

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1984 MARQUIS

Fuel gauge fluctuation occurs when the reservoir, which is located inside of the fuel tank, responds slowly to fuel level changes caused by vehicle driving manuevers. An improved reservoir design in the fuel tank alleviates this condition, and the fuel tank must be replaced to service the condition.

Procedure:

A new service fuel tank contains a modified reservoir with pierced slots and an enlarged return tube. These changes permit the reservoir to respond quicker to fuel level changes. This new tank assembly improves the gauge system response significantly on Station Wagons because the reservoir is centered in the tank. Less improvement can be expected on Sedans due to an off center reservoir.
