Article No. 83-22-6

AIR CONDITIONING - INSUFFICIENT COOLING DUE TO LOW REFRIGERANT CHARGE

FORD 1984 TEMPO

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1984 TOPAZ

Refrigerant loss may be caused by excessive pressure build-up at the compressor pressure relief valve if the electrodrive engine cooling fan is not operating. The excessive pressure is caused by heat accumulation in the condensor if adequate air flow to cool the refrigerant is not available.

Before attempting to recharge the A/C system, ensure that the electrodrive engine cooling fan is operating when the A/C compressor is engaged. If the cooling fan is not operating correctly, follow the diagnostic procedures as outlined in the respective Car Shop Manuals, Section 27-10, and/or the Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manuals. Refrigerant should then be added to the A/C system as outlined in Section 36 of the Shop Manuals and the claim coded to the causal part.
