Other 1984 Tempo/Topaz Concerns

Attachment II
Inoperative Cooling Fan/Fan Always On/No A/C

Cause: Fan control module inoperative

Production Action: Under investigation for causal factors.

Service Action: When it is necessary to replace a cooling fan control module, the A/C clutch diode (Car Wiring and Vacuum Diagrams Supplement for Tempo/Topaz, page 11) should also be checked for a short circuit and proper polarity. Also, the 12A581 wire harness routing should be checked to ensure that it does not contact the EGR valve. The harness should be rerouted according to the instructions in TSB 83-13-15, dated 6/28/83.

Starter Engages When A/C Button is Depressed - ATX

Cause: Miswired wiring harness allows starter engagement when A/C clutch is, energized. Can only occur with key on and transmission in neutral or park.

Production Action: Correction of wiring harness at the supplier - April 1983.

Service Action: Remove white/pink-dot wire from the eight-terminal gray connector near the starter relay. This information is also published (with illustrations) in TSB 83-16-8, dated 8/9/83.

Door Overslam - Upper Rear Corner of Door Contacts Roof/Secondary Door Opening Weatherstrip Wrinkles and/or Tears

Cause: The soft bulb weatherstrip used to lower door closing efforts allows the door to overslam. Design and part quality concerns caused the weatherstrip to wrinkle and/or tear.

Production Action: Shed lip seal (secondary door opening seal) and weatherstrip were redesigned to provide a molded-in bumper that eliminates these concerns in August 1983.

Service Action: TSB will be issued in September 1983 with instructions for installing a revised weatherstrip when service parts are available.

Glass Slap/Breakage With the Glass in the "Down" Position - Right Front Door

Cause: Mislocated rivet hole in the channel retainer assembly lower attachment and or a broken teflon guide tube bushing which allows glass fore and aft movement.

Production Action: Interim - Plants reworked affected parts by redrilling the hole and locating the channel retainer rearward.

Final - Revised retainer assemblies with proper hole location - 8/1/83.

Service Action: Service procedures are included in the attached TSB article which will be published in TSB-83-18, dated September 7, 1983. Parts will be available 9/2/83.
