- HIGH PULL OUT EFFORTS FROM THE PARK POSITION AND/OR SHIFT LEVER WILL NOT MOVE FROM THE PARK POSITION
FORD 1983-84 ESCORT, EXP; 1984 TEMPO
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1983-84 LYNX, LN7; 1984 TOPAZ
Some vehicles equipped with the ATX transaxle may exhibit high pull out efforts from the park position and/or the shift lever will not move from the park position due to the "T" handle not being fully seated to the shift lever assembly (shaft).
It is not necessary to disassemble the floor shift lever assembly or the shift lever cable to service this condition. Verify that the shift lever knob (T-handle) is seated to the shift lever completely. In the event the knob (T-handle) is not seated completely, the release tab travel is insufficient to allow the movement of the lever rearward.
Merely hold the shift knob (T-handle) and fully depress the button. Firmly and fully depress the shift knob (T-handle) completely onto the shift lever assembly (shaft).
