ISSUE: Two different types of steering gear mounting clamps and retaining nuts have been used on the above vehicles. All vehicles except for 1987 models built from Job #1 to 01/15/87 use J-nut fasteners. The 1987 vehicles built Job #1 to 01/15/87 use Strux nut fasteners.

ACTION: When servicing the steering gear mounting hardware, refer to Figure 6 for the acceptable mounting clamp and nut combinations. Also, note that the type of bolts and torque specifications vary dependent on which nut is being used, Figure 6.
NOTE: Use of a wrong combination will cause a gap between mounting clamp and vehicle body resulting in a loose steering gear.
