The A/C temperature control cable end retainer may become disengaged from the mounting bracket at the evaporator case because the mounting bracket hole may be too large. To service the condition, install a tie strap to retain the cable end retainer in the mounting bracket as shown in Figure 7. Vehicles built after 5/1/83 will already have the tie strap installed if one was required.
Cable Removal:
If it is necessary to remove a cable held in place by a tie strap, proceed as follows:
1. Cut off tie strap and remove from cable retaining tabs.

2. Disconnect cable flag from evaporator assembly, retaining hole using service tool (T83P-18532-AH), Figure 8.
3. Pull self-adjust clip from temperature door crank arm.
Tie Strap Installation:
1. Slide self-adjust clip onto temperature door crank arm.

2. Position cable inside slotted hole (Figure 8).

3. Push cable housing snap in locking tabs through retaining hole with retaining tabs in the vertical position (Figure 7). Be certain tabs are completely through hole.
4. Insert plastic tie strap through both retaining tabs (Figure 7).
5. Securely fasten tie strap and cut off excess.
