2.3L HSC CLICKING SOUND AT IDLE

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1984 TOPAZ
The Fuel Control Solenoid may be the cause of a clicking noise in the Engine Compartment. The following procedure should be used to service this concern.
FIGURE 15:
1. Remove the push pins holding the Fuel Control Solenoid to the mounting plate.
2. Pull Fuel Control Solenoid away from mounting plate and cut off mounting studs at plate (Figure 15).

3. Using double latch tie strap (N802862) make a loop around the upper hose on the solenoid, near end of hose. Pull loop tight. (Figure 16).
NOTE: If this strap is not available, TWO similar binding straps could be substituted.
FIGURE 17:
4. Let solenoid hang. Then make a second loop around the electrical harness (-14290-). Latch tie strap, but do not tighten completely! (Figure 17)
