LOSS OF POWER, STUMBLES/STALLS - COLD (2.3L HSC)

If one of the subject vehicles exhibits a loss of power (may not drive more that 15-20 MPH), possible accompanied by stumbles or stalls, which develops at ambient temperatures below 60~ F and occurs after the first mile of cold drive, the Fuel Control Solenoid should be checked using the following procedure:

Diagnostic Procedure:
^ Disconnect the harness connector from the Fuel Control Solenoid.
^ "T" a vacuum gage into the 5/32 inch hose between the solenoid and carburetor (Figure 29).
^ Start the engine and idle.
^ The vacuum should read between 1.0 and 2.5 inches Hg.
^ Then apply 12 volts to the solenoid using Jumper Leads to vehicle battery.
^ The vacuum should read between 4.0 and 5.5 inches Hg. If the vacuum output is not as specified, replace the Fuel Control Solenoid (E43Z-9B998-A).
