Premium Radio - Intermittent Sound Boost Operation

Subject vehicles equipped with all-electronic radio and premium sound option built prior to June 1, 1983, may exhibit intermittent or totally inoperative sound boost to the front speakers due to an internal radio shown.
Prior to preforming normal premium sound system diagnosis (Shop Manual Section 35-01) on the subject vehicles, it is recommended that the service technician check circuit 747, at the radio connector, for a shorted condition, using the following procedure:
^ Verify condition (radio and premium sound "on" with the ignition switch in the "ACCY" position.

^ Locate connector C519 at the rear of the radio chassis (Figure 6).
^ With the radio and premium "on", and connector C519 connected, measure the voltage on the orange/light blue dot wire (Circuit 747) by probing the rear of the appropriate terminal in the C519 connector.
^ If the voltage reads 12 volts on circuit 747, proceed with normal radio/premium sound system diagnosis, Section 35-01 of the Shop Manual.
^ If the voltage on circuit 747 is zero, remove the radio chassis and return it to the local radio service center for necessary services.
