Owner Letter
June, 1988Dear Owner:
Ford Motor Company of Canada, Limited (Ford) is offering a no-charge Service Program (M64) for your 1984 Tempo or Topaz car whose serial number is shown on the enclosed Notification Form.
Reason For This Program
Ford has found that the lower rear lip (hem flange) of the luggage compartment decklid (trunk lid) on some cars may not have been properly sealed.
What Might Happen
In areas of extremely high road salt usage, it is possible that metal perforation in the lower rear area of the luggage compartment decklid could occur prematurely.
Your Dealer Will
Inspect your car to verify the metal perforation condition. If the condition exists, the dealer will replace the luggage compartment decklid on your car at no-charge to you.
This Service Program provides extended corrosion perforation coverage for the luggage compartment decklid on your car for 60 months regardless of distance travelled or through October 31, 1988, whichever provides the greater coverage. This time limitation period starts with the in-service date of your car. Your dealer will refund you for this service if you paid to have it done previously.
What You Should Do
If you notice corrosion perforation of the decklid on your car, contact your Ford or Mercury dealer and ask for a service appointment. When you take your car in, give the enclosed form to the dealer. If you misplace the form, the dealer will still do the work free of charge.
Refund
For a refund, present the original of the paid repair order or parts purchase receipt to your Ford or Mercury dealer no later than October 31, 1988. The dealer will process a refund if the repairs were made prior to the receipt of this letter.
Changed Your Address, Name Or Sold The Vehicle?
If you have, please fill out Section I of the prepaid postcard included with the enclosed form and mail it to us.
If the dealer cannot answer any questions you may have regarding this Service Program, please write the "National Owner Relations Office" or contact the nearest Ford of Canada Regional Office. The address and telephone numbers for these offices are shown in your car's Owner Guide.
