SPARK KNOCK - 2.3L OHC ENGINE EQUIPPED WITH CARTER YFA CARBURETOR
FORD 1985 MUSTANG, LTD
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1985 CAPRI, MARQUIS
On vehicles built prior to 10/1/84 that exhibit spark knock, the symptom could be caused by the EGR Vacuum Line, 90 degree connector, that may be bottomed out on the "B-Port" vacuum tube at the carburetor, thereby restricting vacuum to the EGR.
Figure 17:
Remove the Air Cleaner Assembly and check the clearance between the end of the black rubber vacuum connector and the carburetor casting. (Figure 17). If clearance is not at least 1/4", then back the vacuum connector off, using a screwdriver, to provide a 1/4" to 1/2" of clearance.
