CALIBRATION: 5-05A-R0
WARNING: This modification is authorized only for the listed engines. Performing this modification on other engine calibrations is unauthorized and could create liability under applicable federal or local laws.
Some vehicles equipped with manual transmissions that exhibit temporary high idle speeds (approximately 20 seconds) may have been built incorrectly with a jumper harness that is intended for use on automatic transmission-equipped vehicles. When installed on a manual transmission vehicle, the jumper harness will prevent the EEC IV processor from learning the correct adaptive idle speed. It will also defeat the clutch/ starter interlock that is intended to prevent starting in gear. The condition can be corrected by using the following procedure:
1. Locate the automatic transmission jumper harness (E4ZB-12638-AA) on the left inner panel behind the left spring tower.
NOTE: The jumper harness is identified by a grey vinyl tag with the words "auto trans" written on it.
2. Unplug the jumper harness and remove from the (14290) wire assembly.
3. Secure the existing loose connector to the main wiring loom to prevent chaffing against the body sheet metal.
4. Perform Idle Speed-Adaptive Learning Strategy.
NOTE: Before running the Adaptive Learning Strategy, the Battery must be disconnected, then reconnected to reset the Processor.
