Subject: Owner Notification Program M50 - Inspection and, if Necessary, Replacement of Thick Film Ignition Modules on Certain 1.6 Liter and 2.3 Liter Engine Equipped 1984 and 1985 - Model Passenger Cars

This letter announces Owner Notification Program M50 and provides the attached technical instructions (Attachment I) and a copy of the letter being sent by the Company to owners (Attachment II).

Some of the subject cars may experience a condition in which the engines will not start, operate intermittently, or stop running as a result of failure of thick film ignition (TFI) modules.

Owner Notification Program M50 provides the following:

Inspection and Repairs

^ Owners will be asked to return their cars for inspection and, if necessary, replacement of thick film ignition modules.

^ Service provided by this program will be performed at no charge to owners for 5-years from the cars' in-service date, or 50,000 miles of operation, whichever comes first. Service required after that time/mileage period will be the owners' responsibility.

Reimbursement

^ Reimbursement will be provided to owners who have already paid to have the program repairs performed on their cars prior to the announcement of this program.

^ Owners must request reimbursement by August 31, 1987. Dealerships must submit separate warranty claim Forms 1863 for owner reimbursement by October 30, 1987.
Service provided by this Program must be performed on involved used cars that may be in dealer stock.

Owner mailings will begin April, 1987, and will be completed as quickly as possible while maintaining sufficient parts availability.

Please assure that your parts and service personnel are familiar with the details of this program so that they may respond to owner inquiries.

Your efforts will help assure continued owner satisfaction with their Ford-built cars.
