Wiring - Circuit Color Code Elimination
Article No. 85-4-8
WIRING - ELIMINATION OF THE DOT AND HASH AS SECONDARY COLOR CODES FOR WIRING CIRCUITS - VEHICLES BUILT AFTER 1/15/85
FORD 1985 - ALL VEHICLES
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1985 - ALL VEHICLES
LIGHT TRUCK 1985 - ALL EXCEPT ECONOLINE
A new wire color code specification has been released for the 1986 model year. It simplifies color coding by
replacing the dot and hash secondary colors with stripes. The new color coding will be pulled ahead into the 1985 model year as the stock of wires coded with dots and hashes is exhausted.
A deviation was issued to allow our suppliers to substitute wires coded with dots for wires coded with hashes and vice versa, as long as the primary and secondary colors remain the same.
NOTE: This information should be added to all 1985 EVTM's (Electrical and Vacuum TroubleShooting Manual) and car wiring and vacuum diagrams.
