A/C - Erratic Operation of Auto Temp Control

The subject vehicles may experience erratic temperature control, air distribution control, and on vehicles with auto blower (1984-85 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car) erratic auto blower. These conditions may be caused by a vacuum leak at the diverter valve, located on the servo assembly. To service this condition, replace the diverter valve with a new valve, as outlined in the following procedure.

1. Remove the servo from the vehicle as described in the respective vehicle shop manual. On 1984-85 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car vehicles, use fabricated service tool to remove push-nut. (Figures 2 and 3).

2. Remove the diverter valve and the actuator wire feed from servo assembly using a small screw driver to unsnap the actuator wire from the servo retaining pin. (Figures 4 or 5).
3. Connect the new diverter valve actuator to the servo retaining pin. (Figures 4 or 5).
4. Secure the diverter valve to the servo using the new push-nuts provided (Figures 4 or 5).
5. Reinstall the servo in the vehicle using the new push-nut on door shaft as described in the respective vehicle shop manual. Ensure that the temperature door crank arm is installed through brass eyelet on servo for Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town Car and Continental Mark VI vehicles (Figure 4).
6. Check the system for proper operation. Refer to the respective shop manual under Description and Operation.
