Power Door Locks - Intermittent Operation
86ford22 Article No. 86-4-3DOORLOCKS - POWER - INTERMITTENT OPERATION
FORD 1985 THUNDERBIRD
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1985 COUGAR
Intermittent operation of the power door lock system could be caused by side loading of the power door lock actuator. Side loading is caused by the length of wiring between the power door lock actuator connector and the electrical door wiring assembly attaching clip being too short. Side loading will restrict movement of the actuator rod.
Figure 16:
This concern can be corrected by changing the route of the wiring to the power door lock actuator. It can be achieved by drilling a 6.5 mm (1/4") diameter hole in a new location to install electrical harness retaining clip, as shown in Figure 16. This action will cause the wiring to "loop" freely and eliminate side loading on the actuator.
