SUNROOF - DRAIN HOSE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
FORD 1984-85 THUNDERBIRD
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1984-85 COUGAR
The manual sun roof's front drain tubes occasionally are difficult to remove from the "A" pillars for service replacement.
Figure 1:
FIGURE 2:
FIGURE 3:
Because of limited space within the "A" pillar structure, the front drain tubes have component plastic guides ("spiders") that are designed to make the routing of the tubes through the "A" pillars easier. However, during drain tube removal, these "spiders" may cause the drain tubes to "hang-up" within the "A" pillars, making their removal extremely difficult. Prior to installing a new replacement hose, it will be necessary to provide three 1/4" (6.3 mm) diameter holes in the "A" pillar for added plastic push pins required to keep the replacement hose from being punctured by the garnish mouldings' attaching screws in the "A" pillar structure. Refer to Figure 1 through Figure 3.
Now, join the upper end of the existing hose to the end of the new replacement hose and forcibly pull the hoses downward thru the "A" pillar structure. (NOTE: The above procedure is the opposite of the old 1984 Shop Manual procedure.)
