86ford24 Article No. 86-2-6OIL PRESSURE SENDER - FALSE LOW OIL PRESSURE SIGNAL ACTIVATED ON ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENTATION CLUSTER
FORD 1985-86 THUNDERBIRD
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1985-86 COUGAR
LIGHT TRUCK 1986 AEROSTAR
On vehicles built from August 1984 through October 1, 1985, the low oil pressure warning signal may be activated in error. The warning signal is a flashing oil can ISO symbol and an audible tone that lasts approximately 1-2 seconds and repeats every 5 seconds.
The oil pressure sender that was used to sense oil pressure for the electronic instrument cluster on these vehicles is not compatible with the input signal required by the electronic instrument cluster.
FIGURE 7:
To service this condition, remove the E4ZZ-9278-A oil pressure sender and replace it with an E6SZ-9278-A sender and an E6SZ-9F291-A wire assembly (jumper). The E6SZ-9F291-A jumper must be connected to the E6SZ-9278-A sender, and the instrument cluster sensing wire connected to the other end of the jumper. The oil pressure gauge will not operate without the jumper in series with the sender. (Refer to Figure 7)
