Design changes to the ATX converter one-way clutch thrust washer have caused the existing "holding" tool (T81P-7902-A) to not work with the above ATX applications. This tool, however, must be retained to service 1984-86 Tempo/Topaz as well as 1984 and prior Escort/Lynx, EXP/LN7 ATX applications.
An existing "holding" tool (T77L-7902-A) can be reworked (Figure 16) to use on 1985 Escort/Lynx and EXP applications. The rework of this tool will not affect its use for its original transmission applications (i.e. C3, C4, C5, C6 AOD and AXOD).

The tool can also be fabricated, as noted in the illustration, from standard bar stock. A new "holding" tool will be made available through the essential tool catalog.
