An open circuit in the electric choke cap may prevent the choke from operating properly. Use the following procedure for servicing the choke system.
1. Remove the air cleaner assembly, then disconnect the electric choke terminal connector from the choke cap.
2. Cool the electric choke cap to 50~F or lower. This can be done using a choke/sensor tester, Rotunda Part Number 090-00001. For cooling procedure, refer to the 1985 Car Shop Manual, Emission Diagnosis, page 4-135, paragraph IIC.
Figure 8 - Electrical Continuity Test:
3. While the choke cap is still below 50~F, check electrical continuity. Use a test lamp, as shown in Figure 8. The lamp should glow if the choke cap is good.
4. If the lamp does not glow, the choke cap should be replaced. Replace with service choke cap, pan number E6PZ-9848-A.
5. Reconnect the electric choke terminal connector to the choke cap.
6. Operate the engine to assure proper choke rotation.
7. Reinstall the air cleaner assembly.
